5032 Windows Firewall was unable to notify the user that it blocked an application

Written when the Windows Firewall could not notify the user that it blocked an application’s incoming connection. The block itself was still performed.

Overview

The subcategory is Audit Other System Events. It is generated when displaying the “blocked” user notification accompanying an inbound block (5031) failed. The block is in effect; only the notification UI could not be shown.

How it is triggered

  • When the block notification could not be displayed to the user due to session state (no UI to show notifications) and the like.

Security review points

  • Since the block works, the direct defensive concern is small. Check the actual block content in 5031.
  • It can occur normally in environments with no notification UI (servers, etc.).

Notes for log review

  • Its standalone priority is low. Primarily watch the corresponding block event 5031.
